Dump Tube

System for dumping steam into a condenser

The dump tube is used together with a steam conditioning valve in applications such as turbine bypass, where steam is dumped into a condenser. IMI CCI has extensive expertise in the field of dump tubes, with experience from thousands of plants, providing support during the design stage. The dump tube is a fixed orifice designed to reduce steam pressure from the bypass valve to condenser pressure, with the option to use it as a flow meter.

  • The dump tube is welded to the steam pipe downstream of the bypass valve.
  • The dump tube is a fixed orifice that reduces bypass steam pressure to match the condenser’s pressure.
  • Carefully calculated design allows the dump tube to be used as a flow meter.
  • Two main applications:
    • Water-cooled condenser: The dump tube is mounted directly in the condenser.
    • Air-cooled condenser: The dump tube is mounted in the bypass line, connected to a header going from the turbine outlet to the air-cooled condenser.
